Latest Information about Novel Coronavirus Cases in China

On May 17, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 7 new cases of confirmed infections (4 imported cases in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and 3 indigenous cases, 2 in Jilin province and 1 in Shanghai municipality), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 11 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 246 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Severe cases decreased by 2.

As of 24:00 on May 17, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,704 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,659 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 45 confirmed cases (including 2 severe cases) and 4 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 17, the National Health Commission had received reports of 82,954 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 78,238 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 82 confirmed cases (including 8 severe cases) and 4 suspected cases. So far, 740,054 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 4,970 are now under medical observation.

On May 17, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 18 new asymptomatic cases (including 2 imported cases). 85 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 1 imported case) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 17, 448 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 31 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 17, 1,540 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,055 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 1,024 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (44 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 440 in Taiwan (7 had been dead and 395 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
