On Aug 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 22 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 14 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Jiangsu province, 2 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Shaanxi province and 1 in Guangdong province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 39 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,464 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 3.

As of 24:00 on Aug 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,322 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,109 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 213 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 17, the National Health Commission had received reports of 84,871 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 79,642 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 595 confirmed cases (including 27 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 807,383 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 18,473 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 17 new asymptomatic cases (including 16 imported cases). 12 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 4 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Aug 17, 356 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 221 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 17, 5,055 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,524 in Hong Kong (69 had died and 3,599 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 485 in Taiwan (7 had died and 450 had been cured and discharged from hospital)..
