Consul General Pan Qingjiang Meets with Chief Director for International Relations in the Office of Gauteng Premier

On November 24, 2023, Pan Qingjiang, the newly appointed Consul General of China in Johannesburg, met with Michael Canham, Chief Director for International Relations in the Office ofGauteng Premier, and his team members. The two sides exchanged views on the promotion of subnational exchanges and practical cooperation between China and South Africa.

Consul General Pan said that President Xi Jinping reached important consensus with President Ramaphosa on the future development of China-South Africa relations during his state visit to South Africa. The Consulate General is willing to strengthen collaboration with the Office of Gauteng Premier to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two Heads of State, and strive to achieve more results in the promotion of exchanges and cooperation in various sectors between China and Gauteng Province to achieve more results.

Director Canham welcomed Consul General Pan on his assumption of thenew post and expressed that the Office of Gauteng Premier is willing to maintain close communication and cooperation with the Consulate General. During his successful visit to China in June this year, Premier Panyaza Lesufi reached agreements of cooperation with China in many areas. Director Canham looks forward to the advancement of the friendly cooperative relations between Gauteng Province and China.

The two sides also exchanged views on the promotion of projects in culture, education, peoples livelihood and other sectors.
