Chinese Consulate-General in Johannesburg Holds 2020 Chinese New Year Reception

On Jan. 21st, the Chinese Consulate-General in Johannesburg held 2020 Chinese New Year Reception. Consul General Tang Zhongdong, Premier Sisi Ntombela and 6 MECs of Free State province, government and legislature officials from the consular districts, friends from circles of business, Tertiary education and think tanks, Consul General of Botswana and India and diplomats from other countries in Johannesburg, Chinese community, Chinese companies and Confucian Institute, over a total of 300 guests attended the grand reception.

After the playing and singing of the national anthems of China and South Africa, Premier Sisi Ntombela delivered a speech and spoke highly of the achievements made by the Chinese people. She said, Free State provincial government and the Chinese Consulate-General in Johannesburg have made close collaborations in education, economy and trade areas. There are presently 232 students from Free State province studying in China and 34 of them graduated and came back last year, who have been in love with everything of China and are expected to contribute more to their hometown and the promotion of bilateral relations. She said that Chinese companies are more than welcome to Free State to start business and create more job opportunities, the door of Free State is open to China forever.

Consul General Tang Zhongdong made a speech by beginning of extending his warmest greetings for Chinese New Year to all the guests. He introduced the achievements made by China in 2019 as well as over the past 70 years, the implementation of principle of "One Country, Two Systems" and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, which has greatly inspired the patriotic spirit and confidence of Chinese people.

In 2020, Consul General Tang said, China will continue to hold high the banner of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and make great efforts to realize the first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. The absolute poverty which has bothered China for thousands of years will be eliminated historically. Consul General Tang stressed that in a world undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, China’s diplomacy shall reaffirm our original aspirations to bring happiness to the Chinese people, defend fairness and justice in the international arena, uphold multilateralism, and jointly promote the “Belt and Road Initiative”.

Consul General Tang extended gratitude to the Chinese companies, Chinese Communities for their contributions to promoting the economic and social development of South Africa and bilateral relations between the two countries. As the new Consul General, he has felt the strong passion and expectations from South African people for better relations between China and South Africa, and is trying to do his best to improve mutually beneficial co-operations with governments at all-levels in the consular districts, promote more cultural exchanges, improve mutual trust of each other, and push forward the bilateral comprehensive and practical cooperation.

  

In a joyful, peaceful and warm vibe, all the participants of the event had a lovely night by extending Chinese New Year greetings to each other, making Friends, proposing toasts, and enjoying Chinese traditional art performances and delicious Chinese food.
